Eddie Hearn vs Dana White: Boxing Rivalry Explained (2026)

Eddie Hearn has made some intriguing remarks, suggesting that Dana White may not possess extensive knowledge about boxing, especially in light of the recent developments surrounding their respective careers.

The background to this situation is significant. Just recently, Zuffa Boxing made its official debut in Las Vegas at the Meta Apex, marking a notable milestone for Dana White. This event was relatively understated but nonetheless pivotal, as it is backed by influential figures in the industry, including Turki Alalshikh and the TKO Group affiliated with WWE.

A few hundred spectators gathered at the venue, which has become a recognizable spot for MMA fans, to watch Ireland’s Callum Walsh face off against former world title contender Carlos Ocampo. However, the match itself was described as somewhat underwhelming, lacking any memorable moments or significant knockouts throughout the evening.

Hearn's criticism of Dana White centers around an apparent lack of familiarity with the boxing landscape. Since White's entry into boxing with the anticipated match between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford last September, tensions between him and Hearn have simmered. Their public disputes have been lively, though they have managed to maintain a semblance of their long-standing friendship.

During his appearance on Ariel Helwani's show, Hearn candidly expressed that he believes White's understanding of boxing falls short when compared to his deep engagement with the UFC. Fans have echoed similar sentiments regarding White's perceived disinterest in boxing over the years, and Hearn reiterated this point.

"We’re in a competitive space, and that’s just how it is," Hearn remarked about their dynamic. "They might not view me as a real rival, while I consider myself significantly more knowledgeable than them. Regardless, that’s not the main issue.

"When I observe him discussing boxing – and I don’t mean to be disrespectful – it’s clear he doesn’t have a strong grasp of the fighters or the sport itself. He seems 100% dedicated to the UFC, and quite frankly, not as invested in boxing.

"I can tell when he’s in his element discussing UFC, he’s enthusiastic and engaged. Yet, when he’s at a press conference reading off notes about a ten-round fight, I find myself losing interest."

Hearn further elaborated on the art of promotion, stating, "Sales is about conveying emotion. When I present something to you, that emotional connection is what compels you to invest in it. If there’s a lack of passion, it simply doesn’t resonate the same way.

"If I were to step into the MMA arena, my enthusiasm would likely mirror his when discussing boxing. I wouldn’t have the intricate knowledge of fighters and events that I currently possess in boxing. I pride myself on knowing every ranking and fighter’s record, much like he could probably discuss UFC fighters in detail.

"It’s a bit unfair to claim he lacks passion; I believe the UFC holds a more significant place in his heart than boxing does."

Despite their chilly relationship, there was potential for a friendly meetup between Hearn and White during their recent engagements in Las Vegas. With Hearn hosting an event at Fontainebleau and White involved with UFC 324, the two were scheduled to meet.

However, due to unforeseen weather conditions, Hearn faced challenges in traveling to New York City for the upcoming Madison Square Garden bout featuring Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson. As a result, their opportunities to connect coincided poorly.

"I reached out to Dana to arrange a meeting; he contacted me as well. Unfortunately, I had a flight scheduled and needed to get to New York. We only had a limited window to leave, and if we missed it, it would have been uncertain when we could have made it here, " Hearn explained. "So, while we didn’t manage to catch up, we were close to arranging something. I did message him on Saturday, and it would have been good to reconnect, but things are fine between us."
