In a heartwarming story, holidaymakers in Wales were left in awe after witnessing a rare and breathtaking display of marine life right from their holiday accommodation.
Rebecca Kieft, a visitor from Swansea, was enjoying the coastal views and the regular dolphin sightings when an unexpected guest made an appearance. As she went to capture a moment of the beautiful scenery, she noticed something peculiar - a "big puff of water" that caught her attention.
"I was shocked and excited at the same time," Rebecca recalled. "The dolphins were jumping and then, out of nowhere, this massive whale broke through the waves. It was an unforgettable moment!"
The family, who were staying near Pwll Deri on the Strumble peninsula, felt incredibly lucky to have witnessed such a rare event. Rebecca's father, upon hearing her excited exclamation, rushed to the window, and the entire family got a glimpse of the whale as it gracefully moved away from the coast.
But here's where it gets controversial...
A marine wildlife charity in the area confirmed that the mammal was indeed a humpback whale. This species is known for its impressive size and distinctive features, making it a truly remarkable sighting.
Rebecca, who has had previous encounters with humpback whales in Tahiti, joked, "I must have a special connection with these majestic creatures!"
She described the whale as being dramatically larger than the dolphins, estimating it to be three or four times their length.
"It was an incredible surprise," she said. "We felt so fortunate to have seen such a diverse range of wildlife from our holiday let. If you're ever in the area and hoping to spot some whales, this is the place to be!"
The Sea Trust, a marine conservation charity based in Pembrokeshire, shared Rebecca's amazing video on social media, highlighting the abundance and variety of marine life in West Wales.
